Job Title: Marketing Manager – Rx (Medical Doctor)

Location: Parktown, Johannesburg

Main Purpose of the Role
The Marketing Manager – Rx is a clinically trained medical professional who will lead the strategic development and execution of the company’s prescription brand portfolio.
This role is designed for a doctor with strong clinical insight who is interested in applying their medical expertise to pharmaceutical strategy, healthcare innovation, and evidence-based brand leadership.
The successful candidate will translate clinical evidence, treatment guidelines, and disease insights into credible and impactful marketing strategies that resonate with healthcare professionals.
Working closely with Medical Affairs, Sales, and Regulatory teams, the Marketing Manager will drive the positioning, growth, and lifecycle management of the company’s Rx brands while maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity and compliance.
A structured development pathway will support the successful candidate in building advanced pharmaceutical marketing and leadership capabilities.

Key Performance Areas
1. Strategic Leadership
Develop and contribute to the strategic direction of the company’s Rx brand portfolio in alignment with broader business objectives.
Leverage clinical expertise to guide brand positioning, treatment pathway alignment, and evidence-based messaging.
Work closely with the medical team to translate clinical research, guidelines, and disease insights into clear and credible marketing strategies.
Support lifecycle management of Rx brands, identifying opportunities for growth, differentiation, and innovation.
2. HCP Marketing Excellence
Ensure the development of high-quality, scientifically credible promotional materials including detail aids, objection handlers, and leave-behind materials.
Guide the development of educational initiatives such as CME/CPD programs, advisory boards, and key opinion leader engagement.
Support the development of compelling HCP engagement strategies across both traditional and digital channels.
Leverage digital detailing platforms and closed-loop marketing tools to improve engagement quality and messaging effectiveness.
Ensure all HCP communication remains scientifically accurate, compliant, and aligned with regulatory requirements.
3. Team Leadership and Development
Lead, coach, and mentor Rx Brand Managers to deliver high-impact HCP marketing initiatives.
Support the development of strong marketing capabilities within the Rx brand team.
Encourage a culture of scientific rigor, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
Conduct performance reviews, support skills development, and contribute to succession planning within the marketing team.
4. Market Insights and Analysis
Analyse prescription data, market dynamics, and competitor activity to inform strategic decision-making.
Translate clinical and market insights into actionable brand strategies.
Monitor the performance and return on investment of HCP-focused campaigns and initiatives.
Utilise digital detailing insights and closed-loop marketing analytics to optimise messaging and engagement strategies.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate closely with Medical Affairs, Sales, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and Finance teams to ensure aligned strategy and execution.
Provide strategic input to the Head of Marketing and contribute to broader portfolio and commercial discussions.
Support accurate forecasting, budgeting, and planning processes for the Rx portfolio.
6. Compliance and Governance
Ensure that all Rx marketing activities comply with SAHPRA regulations and applicable industry codes.
Maintain rigorous approval processes for promotional materials and campaigns.
Promote a culture of ethical, evidence-based communication within the marketing team.

Minimum Requirements
Education
MBChB degree (qualified medical doctor).
Experience
Minimum 5 years clinical experience as a practising medical doctor.
Strong interest in healthcare strategy, pharmaceutical innovation, and the translation of clinical evidence into practical solutions.
Pharmaceutical industry or medical affairs experience advantageous but not required.
